What’s the best bar soap for men?

Well that depends on what you’re looking for in a bar soap.

Different strokes for different folks as they say.

I can choose the best bar soap for you about as well as I could tell you what the best sex position is; it’s all subjective.

So instead of offering a few bar soap suggestions, I aggregated a massive categorized list of the best bar soaps for men so you can find exactly what you’re looking for based on your unique needs and preferences.

You can thank me later. Enjoy.

Best Bar Soaps For All Skin Types

These are the best all-around body bar soaps for men. Not only do they do an awesome job cleansing the skin, they help nourish, hydrate, and moisturize. After all, nobody wants to use a bar soap that dries out the skin, right?

Dr. Squatch – Bay Rum Bar (5 oz)

Dr. Squatch Bay Rum best bar soap for men 5 ounce bar

Although I highly question the credentials of Dr. Squatch (let’s see a degree buddy) I can’t deny he makes some pretty kickass bar soap. Formulated using all-natural ingredients, this Bay Rum bar is scented specifically for men, and is designed to get you squeaky clean while moisturizing the skin. The ingredient list includes: bay rum, kaolin clay, shea butter, and glycerin. If you’re looking for a great all-around bar soap for men, the Dr. Squatch Bay Rum bar is a solid choice.

What’s great about the Dr. Squatch Bay Rum bar:

• Moisturizing

A bar soap that moisturizes instead of drying out? I’m down for that. Unlike that cheap crap you buy at the grocery store, this bar soap won’t leave your skin feeling like a dried out old lizard. That’s because the Bay Rum bar has a shit ton of skin moisturizing ingredients, including:

  • Glycerin
  • Shea butter
  • Coconut oil
  • Olive oil

• Kaolin clay

The Bay Rum bar’s ingredient list includes kaolin clay. If you’re unfamiliar with the skin benefits of kaolin clay you’re missing out. Benefits:

  • Detoxifies
  • Cleanses
  • Exfoliates
  • Reduces oily skin

• Smells awesome

Scented specifically for men, the Dr. Squatch Bay Rum bar’s all natural fragrance smells awesome, and contains hints of clove, cinnamon, pine, and citrus. If Bay Rum isn’t your thing, they also offer a few other all natural bar soaps that smell pretty great as well, including:

  • Cedar citrus
  • Crisp IPA
  • Eucalyptus Greek yogurt
  • and more

• All natural

I personally don’t like using synthetic ingredients on my skin, and I know most of you guys don’t either. All Dr. Squatch bar soaps are made from natural ingredients, making them safe for pretty much any skin type.

Art of Sport – Charcoal Bar (3.75 oz x 2)

ART OF SPORT best CHARCOAL BAR SOAP FOR MEN 3.75 OUNCES

Specifically formulated for athletes (works for couch potatoes too), Art of Sport bar soap knows a thing or two about keeping a guy’s body smelling fresh and clean. This charcoal based bar soap cleanses, moisturizes, smells awesome, and is made from safe ingredients.

What’s great about the AOS charcoal bar:

• Activated charcoal

Charcoal in bar soap? You’re damn right! If you haven’t noticed, activated charcoal based skincare products are kind of a big deal. That’s because charcoal offers some pretty serious benefits for the skin, including:

  • Gentle exfoliation
  • Absorbs toxins from skin and pores
  • Fights acne
  • Reduces oily skin
  • Treats psoriasis and eczema

• Rich lather

Bar soap that doesn’t work into a lather is so unsatisfying. That’s not a problem here. This AOS body bar is formulated to work into a thick, rich lather that feels great on the skin, and helps speed up the process of getting clean.

• Won’t dry out skin

If you’ve ever used cheap bar soap, you know how badly it can dry the hell outta your skin. Thankfully that’s not the case here. With the help of glycerin and shea butter, the AOS body bar deep cleans without leaving your skin feeling tight and sapped of moisture.

• Smells great

The Art of Sport body bar comes in two really good scents: “Rise” and “Compete.” I would say the “Compete” scent is somewhat gender neutral, while “Rise” is a bit more masculine. You can’t go wrong with either in my opinion.

Viking Revolution – Charcoal Bar (7 oz)

Viking Revolution best Charcoal bar soap for men 7 ounces

Viking Revolution specializes in men’s products with a strong emphasis on beard care and grooming. Their activated charcoal bar soap is one of my personal favorite bar soaps because it does an awesome job deep cleaning the skin, it smells great, it’s freakin huge and it’s priced really well. I also like the fact that it’s designed for beard and face use as well.

What’s great about the Viking Revolution Charcoal Bar:

• Activated charcoal

There’s a reason why activated charcoal bar soaps have become really popular: they are great for the skin. If you’ve never tried charcoal bar soap before, I’d say this is a great place to start.

• It’s huge

It’s thick, heavy, girthy, and really packs a punch. And yes, I’m still talking about the bar soap. The size of this thing is really quite impressive considering the reasonable price tag. And though the size is bigger than the bars you’re probably used to handling, it doesn’t feel unwieldy or cumbersome in the hand.

• Fresh scent

I really like the light eucalyptus and peppermint scent of this bar soap. It smells fresh without being too strong or overbearing. I find that it adds a nice pick-me-up during those early morning showers, but doesn’t linger long past the confines of the shower. Meaning it won’t clash with your favorite body spray or cologne.

• Natural & organic

While synthetic chemicals and ingredients do a great job of cleaning my toilet, I’m not very keen on putting them on my skin. Thankfully this charcoal bar soap is made from all natural and organic ingredients that are safe for all skin types.

Duke Cannon – Leaf & Leather (10 oz)

Duke Cannon Leaf & Leather bar soap for men 10 ounces

Duke Cannon might be the manliest named bar soap in existence. It’s also probably the biggest. The Leaf & Leather brick of soap is part of Duke Cannon’s Great American Frontier line and is inspired by outdoor scents that any real man will appreciate.

What’s great about Duke Cannon Leaf & Leather:

• It’s freaking massive

This is probably one of the biggest bar soaps I’ve ever come across. Weighing in at a whopping 10 ounces, this thing lasts about 3x longer than those puny bar soaps you find at the grocery store. If I had to make one complaint, it’s that guys with smaller hands might have a tough time handling this monster when it gets all wet and slippery. If you find the size to be too cumbersome, I suggest cutting the bar in half, or grow larger hands. Whichever’s easier.

• It smells awesome

Inspired by the scent of tobacco and leather, this bar is unmistakably formulated for a man. Part of Duke Cannon’s Great American Frontier line, the Leaf & Leather bar is 1 of 3 awesome smelling bar soaps that take inspiration from the outdoors. If Leaf & Leather isn’t your thing, Consider Duke Cannon’s other two manly scents: Fresh Cut Pine and Campfire.

• Big lather

What’s a bar soap that doesn’t lather? Trash! One of the first things I look for in a bar soap is how well it lathers. Luckily for us it looks like Duke Cannon looks for that as well, because this Leaf & Leather bar has got suds for days. Satisfying.

Baxter of California – Vitamin Bar (7 oz)

Baxter of California 7 ounce vitamin bar soap for men

Baxter of California has a reputation for being a premium brand, and for good reason. Their men’s products are crafted with high quality ingredients that are beneficial for the skin, and most importantly they work. The Baxter of California Vitamin Bar doesn’t just look cool, it’s packed with ingredients that cleanse, hydrate, and even heal the skin.

What’s great about the Baxter of California Vitamin bar:

• It’s moisturizing

Bar soap gets a bad rap for drying out the skin. That’s because the crap that most people buy at the grocery store does dry out the skin. Thankfully that’s not the case with the BOC Vitamin bar. Instead of leaving your skin feeling tight, dry, and itchy, it instead moisturizes and hydrates. That’s because it’s formulated with skin moisturizing ingredients such as:

  • Glycerin – That cool looking stripe down the middle isn’t just for show. It’s actually packed with skin moisturizing glycerin that you won’t find in grocery store bar soaps.
  • Aloe vera – A natural skin moisturizer derived from the aloe vera plant.
  • Sunflower seed oil – Rich in vitamin E, sunflower seed oil acts as an emollient and helps trap moisture inside the skin.

• Vitamins

As the name suggests, this bar is packed with vitamins that benefit the skin, including:

  • Vitamin A – Helps fight acne, reduces fine lines, and helps eliminate age spots.
  • Vitamin E – A powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals, boosts collagen production, and can even reduce brown spots on the skin.

• It smells great

Baxter of California is a men’s brand, so it only makes sense their bar soap smells masculine. With hints of citrus and “herbal musk essence” this Vitamin bar provides a subtle manly fragrance that stays on the skin for hours, and smells damn good while doing it.

Pré de Provence – No. 63 (7 oz)

Pre de Provence No. 63 bar soap for men 7 ounce

Pré de Provence is a French company that crafts all-natural premium soaps that moisturize the skin instead of drying it out. Using a centuries old triple-milled process, Pré de Provence soaps are smooth, long lasting, and work into a satisfying lather. Their No. 63 collection is formulated specifically for men and includes grooming products such as: aftershave, beard oil, shower gel, shave cream, and of course bar soap.

What’s great about Pré de Provence No. 63:

• It’s moisturizing

Bar soap that leaves skin feeling sapped of moisture? No thanks. Thankfully the soap makers over at Pré de Provence feel the same way, so they enrich their soap with shea butter to leave skin feeling clean, fresh, and of course hydrated.

Masculine scent

The No. 63 collection is designed specifically for us guys, so naturally this bar soap boasts a pretty serious masculine fragrance. Pré de Provence describes it as a:

“Masculine fragrance with a peppery, citrus top notes rounded by woody cedar wood, juicy plum, and violet leaves that finish into an ambery base of leather and tobacco.”

While that description sounds good and is very detailed, I just prefer to say it smells pretty damn good.

It’s big

Size does matter when it comes to soap. This 7 oz brick of soap is built for a man, and you can tell when you get your hands on it. The large size lasts longer than most bar soaps, and offers pretty serious bang for your buck.

Best Bar Soaps For Sensitive Skin

Don’t worry, it’s common for men to have sensitive skin too. In this section you will find some of the best bar soaps for guys with sensitive skin. Each one is specifically formulated with safe, all-natural ingredients that are designed for even the most sensitive skin types.

Legend’s Creek Farm – Goats Milk Soap Bar (5 oz)

Legend's Creek Farm unscented bar soap for sensitive skin 5 ounces

Legend’s Creek Farm was founded in 2011 and specialize in products derived from goats milk. Their handmade bar soaps are gentle on the skin, work into a thick, rich lather and are made from all-natural ingredients. While their bar soaps come in a variety of really awesome scents (14), I chose to feature their unscented, fragrance free version for those with really sensitive skin. Some of their scented offerings include: bay rum, black pine tar, coffee scrub, and dead sea salt.

What’s great about the Legend’s Creek Farm goats milk bar:

• Great for sensitive skin

Well it wouldn’t be in the sensitive skin category if it wasn’t. This unscented goat’s milk bar soap only contains safe, all-natural ingredients, and is perfect for guys with sensitive skin. What’s inside:

  • Goat’s milk – Goat’s milk is one of the safest and most gentle skin cleansing ingredients you will find. It naturally contains alpha hydroxy acids that gently cleanse and help slough away dead skin cells. It’s the perfect balance of gentle and effective.
  • Saponified oils of olive – Saponification is a process that combines oil (olive), water, and lye to create a safe and gentle bar of soap.
  • Coconut – Helps contribute to this soaps creamy lather, and also helps moisturize, cleanse, and is known to contain anti-bacterial properties.
  • Hemp oil – Helps moisturize the skin without clogging the pores. It’s also known to help reduce oily skin.
  • Shea butter – Coveted for it’s skin moisturizing benefits, shea butter also helps treat acne, reduce inflammation, and even helps reduce stretch marks.

Best Exfoliating Bar Soaps

Looking for the best exfoliating bar soap for men? Look no further. These are some of the best bar soaps available for men that contain exfoliating particles. Each one is designed to gently slough away dead skin, dirt, and bacteria, for smoother, healthier looking skin.

Seattle Sundries – Sasquatch Soap (4 oz)

Sasquatch Soap exfoliating bar soap 4 ounces in tin

Seattle Sundries is a small Seattle based operation that specializes in a wide variety of handcrafted premium bar soaps. One of my personal favorites is their Sasquatch Soap bar which offers gentle exfoliation, skin moisturizing benefits, and a badass metal storage tin that features some pretty cool artwork.

What’s great about Sasquatch Soap:

• Doesn’t smell like a Sasquatch’s ass

Although it’s called Sasquatch Soap, thankfully it doesn’t smell like one. The scent can be described as a manly, earthy fragrance with a hint of cedar. Pleasant, masculine, but not overpowering.

• Exfoliating

Exfoliating bar soaps are a staple in my bathroom due to their ability to clean, and slough away dead skin cells. The Sasquatch Bar offers gentle exfoliation that is powered by cocoa and walnut hull powder, and will leave your skin feeling smooth, refreshed, and clean.

• It lasts

While this isn’t the biggest bar soap in the world (4 ounces) is does manage to hold it’s own in regards to longevity (roughly 3 weeks with proper care). I recommend keeping it in the storage tin when not in use to help protect and prolong it’s life.

Baxter of California – Exfoliating Body Bar (7 oz)

Baxter of California exfoliating bar soap for men 7 ounce bar

Another awesome offering from Baxter of California is this premium body bar soap that is designed to exfoliate, cleanse, nourish, and hydrate the skin. All natural exfoliating particles gently lift away dry, dead skin, while glycerin helps moisturize. It also features a fresh, masculine scent that Baxter of California refers to as cedarwood and oakmoss essence. Thanks to the premium all-natural ingredients, this a safe exfoliating option for pretty much any skin type.

What’s great about the Baxter of California Exfoliating Body Bar:

• Effective exfoliation

This body bar boasts some pretty serious exfoliation thanks to the power of pumice, jojoba meal, and crushed olive seed. I personally really like using it for sloughing away odor causing bacteria and dead skin cells in my nether region.

• It’s huge

You can tell by the size of this thing that it was built for a man. Dainty hands probably couldn’t even handle it. You can expect to pay more for a premium brand like Baxter of California, but bear in mind this 7 ounce bar will last considerably longer than pretty much all of those cheap bar soaps from the grocery store. It works way better too.

• It smells great

Baxter of California describes the scent as cedarwood and oak moss essence. I just say it smells awesome and is clearly intended for a man. While the fragrance isn’t overpowering, it does linger on the skin throughout the day in a pleasing way. Anyone who gets close is sure to catch the pleasant masculine aroma.

What I like about Marlowe No. 102:

• Gentle exfoliation

Powered by natural pumice, this Marlowe body scrub bar lays waste to dead, dry skin, and helps significantly improve the look and feel of skin thanks to it’s gentle yet effective exfoliating action.

• It lasts

While you can expect to pay a bit more for this Marlowe scrubbing bar than your average bar of soap, it’s important to keep in mind that it lasts significantly longer. let’s be honest, it also works way better too. Expect roughly 1.5 to 2 months worth of daily use with this generous 7 ounce bar.

Tame the Beast – Sandpaper Scrub Bar (5 oz)

Tame the Beast Sandpaper exfoliating bar soap for men 5 ounces

For those guys looking for some serious exfoliation, you might want to consider this sandpaper scrub bar from Tame The Beast. As the name suggests, this thing is about as course as a piece of sandpaper, while still managing to be safe for the skin. Aside from it’s awesome exfoliating abilities, this bar soap smells really good, and leaves your skin with a fresh, clean feeling.

What I like about Tame the Beast Sandpaper Scrub Bar:

• Serious exfoliation

Us men need a little something extra in our bar soap to help get clean, and it appears that Tame the Beast understands the needs of men, because they developed this Sandpaper Scrub Bar to do just that. Natural pumice particles are littered throughout this 5 ounce bar, and provide an in-depth exfoliating experience like no other. Skin is left feeling clean and smooth. By the way, don’t worry, this scrubbing bar is not at all as painful as it looks.

Straight from Australia, Charles + Lee products are designed exclusively for men and work really well without costing an arm and a leg. Their exfoliating charcoal bar is one of my personal favorite bar soaps, and it’s priced very well. Thanks to the power of activated charcoal, this bar soap cleans and detoxifies, while gentle, yet effective exfoliating particles obliterate dead, dry skin. The finishing touch is a kick-ass scent that any self respecting man will love.

What I like about Charles + Lee Exfoliating Charcoal bar:

• Smells awesome

The smell of this exfoliating charcoal bar soap alone was almost enough for me to include it on this list. C+L claim it’s inspired by the scent of Johnny Depp after a night of drinking whiskey and smoking cigars. While I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the scent, I can say it smells pretty freaking great. Charles + Lee elaborate on the smell by saying it’s formulated to resemble rich leathers, dark rum, and gentle citrus scents. About as manly as it comes, I’d say.

Jack Black – Turbo Exfoliating Bar Soap (6 oz)

Jack Black Turbo Exfoliating Bar soap for men 6 ounces

If you’re the type of guy that gives a damn about his hygiene and grooming, chances are you’re familiar with Jack Black products. Designed exclusively for men, Jack Black grooming products are known for their quality and effectiveness and this Turbo exfoliating bar is no exception. Natural lava rock particles blast away dead skin and imperfections, while shea butter and murumuru keep the skin moisturized and hydrated. Whether you use a wash cloth, loofa, or simply your hands, I find that this Turbo bar quickly builds to a satisfying mass of frothy goodness.

• It smells great

As with most Jack Black products, this Turbo Exfoliating bar soap offers a fresh, manly scent that lingers on the skin for hours. While I can be a bit sensitive to overbearing fragrances, that wasn’t the case with this bar soap. It’s light, fresh, musky, and masculine without being too strong or overbearing.

Best Bar Soaps For Acne and Body Acne

Did you know it’s not uncommon for men in their 30’s or even 40’s to still get pimples? Acne can be a real pain in the ass, sometimes literally. These bar soaps are great for fighting pimples and helping to eliminate them from your face, back (bacne), shoulders, butt, and body.

Baxter of California – Charcoal Clay bar (7 oz)

Baxter of California charcoal clay bar for acne 7 ounces

Blast away acne with the power of activated charcoal! Baxter of California is a premium men’s brand that doesn’t cut corners when it comes to quality, which is why I really like their charcoal clay deep cleansing bar. One of the best kept secrets about activated charcoal is it’s ability to rid the skin of acne thanks to it’s cleansing and detoxifying properties. This bar is designed to be used on the face and body, and helps eliminate acne and prevent future breakouts. It also features an awesome manly scent that keeps you smelling fresh and clean all day.

What I like about Baxter of California Charcoal Clay Bar:

• Activated charcoal and kaolin clay

As far as acne is concerned, activated charcoal and kaolin clay are a match made in hell. Both contain natural acne fighting benefits that help eliminate existing acne, and prevent future breakouts.

  • Activated charcoal – known for it’s absorbent properties, activated charcoal pulls oil and acne causing bacteria from the skin to prevent future breakouts. It also works wonders on existing acne by pulling pus, sebum and dead skin to the surface; helping to dry out pimples and significantly speed up healing time.
  • Kaolin clay – This natural oil-absorbing mineral helps purify and detoxify pores, and offers gentle exfoliating properties that help eliminate acne and stop future breakouts.

Dermaharmony – Salicylic Acid Acne Bar (4 oz)

Dermaharmony salicylic best bar soap for acne plain white bar

Acne treatment in the form of a bar soap? I’m down for that. This FDA approved unscented salicylic acne bar from Dermaharmony is designed to clean deep within the pores to help eliminate pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads through the power of salicylic acid.

What’s great about Dermaharmony Salicylic Acne Bar:

• 2% salicylic acid

2% salicylic acid is one of the most commonly used ingredients in skincare products designed to treat acne. Salicylic acid is so effective at what it does because it penetrates deep into the pores to dissolve oil and dead skin cells which can often lead to pimples. It also acts as a anti-inflammatory which encourages existing pimples to go away faster.

• It has moisturizing ingredients

While most acne treatments tend to dry out the skin, this salicylic bar from Dermaharmony contains skin moisturizing glycerin and olive oil. Not only do they help nourish and hydrate the skin, but olive oil is high in vitamins, antioxidants and has antibacterial properties that are effective at fighting acne and acne causing bacteria.

Jack Black – Charcoal Bar

Jack Black charcoal body bar for men 4.75 ounces

This torture device from Jack Black features a series of spikes that eliminate acne by tearing pimples from the skin. Although that does sound pretty effective, i’d imagine it would leave a scar or two. While this charcoal body bar looks a bit unusual, it does an awesome job of exfoliating and cleansing the skin, while helping to eliminate acne through the power of activated charcoal. And don’t worry, it’s actually painless.

KĒiKA Naturals – Charcoal Bar

Keika Naturals charcoal bar soap for acne with packaging

One of my favorite skin benefits of activated charcoal is it’s ability to clear up acne, and one of my favorite activated charcoal bar soaps is the Keika Naturals Charcoal Detox bar. This all-natural bar soap is designed to detoxify the skin, eliminate pimples and blackheads, and moisturize the skin with the help of shea butter.

What’s great about the Keika Naturals Charcoal Detox bar:

• It fights acne

Thanks to the power of activated charcoal, bentonite clay, and Himalayan pink salt, this bar soap from Keika Naturals helps blast acne and blackheads into oblivion and helps prevent future breakouts.

• It lasts

I’ll be the first to tell you that premium bar soap is more expensive than the crap you can buy at the grocery store. So naturally it can be pretty frustrating when you spend extra money on a premium bar soap that ends up having the lifespan of a mayfly (very short). Thankfully Keika Naturals understands consumers expect more, so they formulated their Charcoal Detox bar to last a lot longer. I can certainly appreciate that.

• Natural

Our skin doesn’t like harsh synthetic chemicals, so it’s nice to know that Keika Naturals formulated this Charcoal Detox bar using 100% safe and natural ingredients that won’t irritate the skin.

For the guy that enjoys the simple things in life I suggest checking out this 5-in-1 soap bar from the Rocky Mountain Barber Co. This 100% natural soap is designed to replace your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, and even your hand soap. If that isn’t convenience in bar form I don’t know what is.

What’s great about the Rocky Mountain Barber Co. soap bar:

• Smells awesome

Rocky Mountain Barber Co. built this bar soap for men, so it only makes sense that it has a fresh masculine scent. While I personally prefer the fresh birchwood scent, it’s also offered in cedar spice.

• 100% natural

I’m not a fan of putting harsh chemicals on my skin and I know most of you guys aren’t either. That’s why this 5-in-1 bar is formulated using only 100% natural ingredients that are safe and gentle on hair, skin, and scalp.

What’s great about The Yellow Bird shampoo bar soap:

• All-natural and organic

You don’t have to be a health nut to appreciate natural and organic grooming products. Considering the amount of harmful ingredients and chemicals found in most shampoos, it’s no wonder more and more people are turning to all-natural alternatives. With this shampoo bar from The Yellow Bird you can rest assured that every ingredient used to make it is safe, natural, organic, and effective.

• Moisturizing

While this is technically a shampoo bar soap, it does a pretty damn good job of conditioning as well. Formulated with argan and jojoba oils that hydrate the hair and scalp, this bar soap leaves hair feeling soft, smooth, and frizz free.

Bossman – 4-in-1

Bossman 4-in-1 best men's bar soap for hair with packaging

This 4-in-1 bar soap from Bossman is designed to work as a shampoo, beard wash, body wash, and shaving lubricant. The all-natural formula is gentle on the skin, while organic coconut oil, palm oil, sunflower oil, and shea butter provide a shit ton of moisture and hydration for the hair and scalp.

What’s great about the Bossman 4-in-1 shampoo bar:

• Moisturizing

Bar soap is known to be drying on the skin and hair but that’s not the case with this 4-in-1 soap. Bossman packs this bar soap with a ton of organic oils and butters that help nourish and hydrate the skin instead of over drying.

• 4-in-1

If you’re anything like me you appreciate simplicity. By combining 4 products into 1, this bar soap makes getting clean quick, easy, and also greatly cuts down on clutter in the bathroom. Pretty cool if you ask me.

• Masculine scent

If the name didn’t already give it away, the manly scent surely will. This bar soap is built for a man and will leave you smelling fresh, tough, and masculine; like every guy should.

Whiff – Freedom Shampoo Bar

Whiff best shampoo bar soap for hair with packaging

This shampoo bar might not look like much, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. Containing only 4 natural ingredients, the Freedom shampoo bar is designed to be safe and gentle on the hair and scalp while still providing that deep down clean that every guy needs.

What’s great about the Whiff Freedom shampoo bar:

• Only 4 ingredients

While you may not initially understand how this is a positive, it becomes clear when you learn that most other shampoos can contain over 20 mystery chemicals and ingredients that do more harm than good. I personally prefer the simplicity and transparency of knowing exactly what’s in my whiff shampoo bar.

• Unscented

While they do offer the Freedom shampoo bar in a peppermint scent, I kind of prefer the simplicity of the unscented version. It also has the added benefit of not clashing with cologne or body spray.

• Lather monster

There is something undeniably satisfying about a bar soap that works into a thick rich lather, and the Freedom shampoo bar certainly doesn’t disappoint in that department. The thick, luxurious lather that this shampoo bar produces leaves your hair feeling clean, healthy, and looking great.

Voodoo – Bamboo Charcoal Shampoo Bar

Voodoo Charcoal shampoo bar soap for hair with packaging

When I saw the cool name and packaging of this shampoo bar I knew I had to give it a try. Made in Australia, the Voodoo shampoo bar is an awesome alternative to traditional shampoos, and even offers some pretty serious hair benefits as well. Formulated using only organic ingredients, this shampoo bar safely cleans the hair while olive, coconut, and castor oils moisturize and hydrate. The result is clean, healthy, shiny hair.

What’s great about the Voodoo shampoo bar:

• Activated charcoal

If you haven’t already noticed, I’m a big fan of activated charcoal grooming products and it’s many benefits. The Voodoo shampoo bar contains bamboo derived activated charcoal that detoxifies the scalp, neutralizes odors, and helps eliminate dry skin and dandruff.

• Moisturizing

Did you ever use traditional bar soap to wash your hair? I have and I know first hand how badly it can dry out your hair and scalp. Thankfully the Voodoo bar isn’t your typical bar of soap. Since it’s designed specifically for washing hair, It’s formulated to moisturize and hydrate instead of stripping the hair of essential oils and nutrients.

• It lasts

You wouldn’t think a bar of soap that’s intended to wash your hair would last very long, but that’s exactly the case. The Voodoo bar quickly works into a thick, rich lather that helps speed up the hair washing process while minimizing product waste. To further help maximize the lifespan of the bar I suggest storing it in a dry location when not in use.

Best Pine Tar Bar Soaps

If you’re unfamiliar with the skin benefits of pine tar bar soap you’re seriously missing out. Pine tar soap offers natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, and is a great soap for guys who suffer from dry skin. It’s also effective at fighting acne, soothing bug bites, and is commonly used to treat people who suffer from eczema and psoriasis.

Dr. Squatch – Pine Tar Soap (5 oz)

Dr. squatch best pine tar bar soap for men

While I wouldn’t take medical advice from a Sasquatch, I would however highly recommend this pine tar bar soap made by one. Formulated using all-natural ingredients, the Dr. Squatch pine tar bar soap offers gentle exfoliation, skin moisturizing benefits, and a woodsy fresh scent that is sure to put hair on your ass.

What’s great about the Dr. Squatch pine tar bar soap:

• Moisturizing

While I’m a big fan of bar soap, I’m not always crazy how most have a tendency to dry out the skin. One of the things I really like about Dr. Squatch soaps is their ability to moisturize and hydrate the skin instead of stripping it of essential oils and nutrients. How to Use Bar Soap – The Right Way

While info on how to use bar soap may seem a bit unnecessary — I’m sure you’ve been using it most of your life — there is always a thing or two to learn when discussing matters of hygiene.

The first bit of enlightenment: you’re using bar soap wrong!

Just kidding, there really isn’t a right or wrong way to use bar soap. As long as your getting the damn thing wet and slathering it on your body it’s all good right?

Sort of.

But there are a few tips and tricks that I would like to share with you to help you increase the efficiency of your shower, improve overall cleanliness, and even help you save some money by increasing the lifespan of your precious bar soap.

So let’s get into it.

Where do you start?

Every guy has his own routine when they get in the shower. Some guys start with washing their face, while others head straight to the stink zones first, ie: balls, ass, and armpits.

While I don’t want to hate on anyone’s cleansing routine, — except maybe the guy who rubs the bar soap directly into his ass crack first. Seriously bro!? — the best course of action is to wash from head to toe.

Starting at the top and working your way down ensures that you’re not rinsing dirt, oil, and bacteria on already clean skin. It’s the same reason why you should be shampooing your hair first before proceeding to the rest of your body.

Hands vs Washcloth vs Loofa

Every guy has his own preference when it comes to applying bar soap to his body. While there is no wrong delivery method, I do suggest you avoid rubbing the bar directly onto your skin.

*The exception: you’re using an exfoliating bar soap.

The reason for this is simple: it’s wasteful and inefficient.

A bar of soap lasts considerably longer when you work it into a lather and apply the lather directly to your skin. Rubbing the bar directly on the skin actually decreases it’s lifespan since you’re using more than you need to get the job done.

For this reason I tend to suggest using a washcloth or loofa. Not only do they tend to build a better lather, but they actually help increase the longevity of the soap.

As far as washcloths and loofas go, my preference is a washcloth. Washcloths are multifunctional in the bathroom, they work soap into a thick, rich lather, and they are washable and reusable. Loofas on the other are one dimensional, they tend to fall apart in the wash machine, and you have to (should be) replace them fairly regularly.

How to Increase the Lifespan of Bar Soap – 2 Tips

Cut it up

Moisture is the biggest killer of bar soap. Having a nice big bar of soap is great, but the fact is if you keep the whole thing stored in the shower, you’re essentially letting it melt away at the hands of steam and moisture even when it’s not in use. I find that if you cut the bar into smaller pieces, you can store the unused portion(s) somewhere cool and dry, effectively increasing the overall lifespan of the bar.

Cool down

If water is a bar soap killer, than hot water is a bar soap serial killer. While nothing feels better than a nice hot shower in the morning, the downside however is that all that steam and heat cause bar soap to dissolve much quicker. Simply lowering the temperature of the water while washing up can significantly increase the lifespan of your bar soap, and even save you some money on your gas bill. Win-win I suppose.
