Wouldn’t it be great if you could tell dry skin to fuck off and it would actually listen?

Unfortunately dealing with dry skin isn’t quite as simple as that, which is why it can be such a frustrating pain in the ass. Often times literally.

Aside from the unappealing flaking, scaling, and peeling, there is the whole physically uncomfortable feeling that guys with dry skin have to deal with as well, including:

  • Itchiness
  • Irritation
  • Rough skin
  • Tight skin feeling
  • Redness
  • Soreness

While these symptoms persist throughout the day, they’re often times most notable after a shower. That’s because the bar soap or body wash that you’re using isn’t doing a very good job of nourishing, hydrating, or moisturizing your skin. In fact, it’s likely doing the exact opposite and completely stripping your skin of moisture.

That’s why it’s so important to be discerning when it’s time to choose the best body wash for your specific needs. Not just any run-of-the-mill grocery store aisle crap will do. You have to choose a body wash that’s specifically formulated for the unique needs of dry skin. Luckily I’m here to help.

Below is my list of best men’s body washes for dry skin. Each one offers skin moisturizing and hydrating ingredients that spell doom for that annoying and uncomfortable feeling of dry skin. I guess you can tell dry skin to fuck off after all.

The Lineup:

6 Best Moisturizing Body Washes for Men Reviewed

Jack Black Clean Cream

Tube of Jack Black clean cream best men's body wash for dry skin

As if Jack Black is reading our mind, their Clean Cream body wash for men is specifically designed to moisturize, hydrate, and basically kick dry skin’s ass to the point of no return. Part of their Epic Moisture Collection, this Clean Cream body wash is formulated with essential oils, botanical extracts, ginger root, argan oil, aloe, and shea butter to give dry skin the boot, and leave you feeling smooth, nourished, hydrated, and moisturized. It’s basically dry skin’s worst nightmare in body wash form.

What I like about Jack Black Clean Cream:

• It’s moisturizing (obviously)

Dry skin sufferers rejoice! Or at least get moderately excited, because this Clean Cream body wash from Jack Black is specifically formulated for men with dry skin. It’s part of Jack Black’s Epic Moisture Collection which also includes a nourishing oil and body lotion. Full of skin moisturizing ingredients, Clean Cream is designed to cleanse the skin, hydrate, moisturize, and of course make dry skin it’s total bitch. What’s inside:

  • Shea butter – Known for it’s skin moisturizing benefits, and is also a natural anti-inflammatory.
  • Aloe – Commonly used in skincare products to treat dry skin. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and is also known to treat acne.
  • Argan oil – High in vitamin E and beneficial fatty acids, argan oil helps protect skin, lock in moisture, and even help reduce the signs of aging.
  • Ginger root – High in antioxidants that protect skin, reduce the signs of aging, and even helps balance skin tone and improve elasticity.

• Fresh natural scent

Jack Black is made for men like us, so naturally their products almost always feature a fresh masculine scent. One of the things I really like about this Clean Cream moisturizing body wash for men is that it doesn’t contain any added fragrances. The manly scent is thanks to it’s all-natural ingredients including: ginger, verbena, and lemon grass.

• Big lather

As with any body wash or bar soap, I suggest using a washcloth of loofah if you’re looking for a thick, rich lather. One of the things I really like about Jack Black Clean Cream is when it’s used in combination with a washcloth (my preference) it produces a rich lather that makes getting clean satisfying and easy.

Cremo All-Season Body Wash

Bottle of Cremo all-season body wash for dry skin

Blast dry skin into oblivion while smelling damn good doing it. Cremo All-Season Body Wash is specifically formulated for gentleman such as ourselves, and you can immediately tell when you crack open the bottle and take your first whiff. While they offer a wide range of masculine smelling fragrances (8), their Bourbon & Oak is my personal favorite. Great fragrance aside, Cremo All-Season Body Wash offers rich hydration that leaves skin feeling moisturized and balanced even during winter; the driest season of the year. Hence “All-Season”.

What I like about Cremo All-Season body wash:

• Rich lather

The first thing you’ll notice about Cremo All-Season body wash is the scent. The second thing you’ll probably notice is the thick, rich lather. Just a small quarter sized amount works into a frothy lather that cleanses from head to toe. I highly recommend pairing with a washcloth or loofah to maximize it’s lather potential.

• Clean and moisturized

Finding a body wash that thoroughly cleanses while still leaving skin feeling moisturized and hydrated is harder than you think. Cremo All-Season Body Wash on the other hand manages to do just that. Formulated with skin moisturizing ingredients What’s inside:

  • Marula oil
  • Glycerin
  • Glyceryl cocoate
  • Mandarin orange oil
  • Aloe

• Options

Smell is a subjective thing. Not all scents are going to appeal to all men. That’s one of the great things about Cremo. They give us options by offering their All-Season Body Wash in a wide range of unique, masculine smelling fragrances, including:

  • Silver Water & Birch
  • Sea Grass & Driftwood
  • Cooling Citrus & Mint Leaf
  • Pacific Sea Salt & Grapefruit
  • Sage & Citrus
  • Citron & Vetiver
  • Blue Cedar & Cyprus

• Reasonably priced

While it does cost more than your basic grocery store body washes, Cremo All-Season Body Wash is still a pretty great value considering it’s premium quality and effectiveness. If you’re looking for the best men’s body wash for dry skin, Cremo definitely offers a ton of bang for your buck.

Brickell Invigorating Mint Body Wash

Bottle of Brickell men's body wash for dry skin

This list of best men’s body washes for dry skin would not be complete without this Invigorating Mint body wash from Brickell. One of my favorite male specific grooming brands, Brickell is known for their natural and organic (but highly effective) grooming products for men. This Invigorating Mint body wash is formulated to deep clean the skin, while all-natural ingredients moisturize, and leave skin feeling soft supple, and hydrated. Go to hell dry skin.

What I like about Brickell Invigorating Mint Body Wash:

• Cleans and moisturizes

Pretty much every body wash in existence is capable of cleansing the skin (for better or worse), but not all are capable of leaving skin feeling hydrated and moisturized afterwards. One of the things that really impressed me about this Brickell body wash is how it gives a deep down thorough clean, but somehow doesn’t strip the skin of moisture. Instead my skin is left feeling smooth, soft, supple, and hydrated. While I’m certainly no expert on how Brickell formulates this Invigorating Mint body wash, I imagine sorcery is involved somehow.

• Natural and organic

My favorite thing about Brickell products is the fact that they are formulated from natural and organic ingredients. Not only are they safer on the skin then their synthetic counterparts, but Brickell ensures that they are even more effective. When most people hear natural and organic, they automatically think “less effective”. At least I know I used to. That was until I tried a few products made by Brickell.

• Smells awesome

As one of the best men’s body washes for dry skin, it only makes sense that Brickell invigorating mint body wash has a fresh, masculine scent. Thanks to peppermint and tea tree oil, this body wash has subtle, man inspired scent that not only smells great in the shower, but leaves skin smelling minty fresh for hours.

• A little goes a long way

Brickell products are know for their quality, and that comes at a price. While this Invigorating Mint body wash costs more than your average grocery store body wash, it outperforms it in every way in my opinion. One of the first things that I noticed about this body wash is how little you need to get the job done. A quarter sized amount is more than enough to work into a thick, rich lather that cleanses the body from head to toe. I personally recommend pairing this body wash with a loofah or washcloth for optimum lather.

Blackwood For Men Pure Moisture

Bottle of Blackwood for men best moisturizing body wash for men

Up next on this list is Blackwood For Men Pure Moisture Body Wash. I’ve become quite familiar with Blackwood’s line of men’s products over the years, including their awesome Hydroblast moisturizing shampoo. So when I decided to give this Pure Moisture body wash a try, my expectations were already quite high. Thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. As the name suggests, this Pure Moisture body wash cleanses while providing the skin with a blast of moisturizing ingredients, including: glycerin, aloe vera, and peach leaf extract. Skin is left feeling clean, soft, supple, and hydrated. I guess you could say this Pure Moisture body wash lives up to it’s name.

What I like about Blackwood For Men Pure Moisture:

• Refreshing tingle

I never feel fully awake in the morning until I’ve had a nice refreshing shower to slap the grogginess out of me. But I’ve discovered that when I pair my morning shower with the menthol induced tingle of Blackwood For Men Pure Moisture body wash, that slap is transformed into a full-on clenched fist punch. It feels refreshing, invigorating, and really helps liven up the senses when all I really want to do is crawl back into bed.

• Big lather

One of the things I’ve come to expect from a quality body wash is a thick, rich lather, and Blackwood For Men Pure Moisture certainly doesn’t disappoint. A little goes a long way here so only a dab is needed to quickly work this body wash into a rich, fluffy lather, that’ll almost have your shower looking like a mini nightclub foam party. Minus the scantily clad women of course.

• Shelf appeal

So this doesn’t have anything to do with the quality or efficacy of the product itself, but I wanted to mention how badass Blackwood for Men products look in the bathroom. Their trademark smoke black rectangular bottles always add a look of masculinity, quality, and general badassery to any space.

Marlowe No. 103

Bottle of Marlowe No. 103 best men's body wash for dry skin

There is something about the simple yet effective quality of Marlowe products that keeps me coming back for more. I’ve been a longtime fan of their exfoliating bar soap, beard oil, and body lotion, and now I can confidently add their No. 103 body wash to the list. It’s formulated with willow bark extract, deep sea algae, passionflower fruit, green tea, and glycerin to moisturize, repair, and revitalize skin. While the bottle states, “suitable for all skin types“, I can’t help but wonder if this stuff was specifically designed for guys with dry skin, considering how soft, supple, and hydrated it leaves my skin feeling. Well whoever the hell it’s “suitable” for, in regards to being an effective body wash for dry skin, it’s a winner in my book.

What I like about Marlowe No. 103:

• Smells awesome

In your quest to find the best men’s body wash for dry skin, you may be forced to sacrifice a manly scent for moisturizing capabilities. With Marlowe No. 103 you don’t have to make that sacrifice. Not only is it extremely moisturizing for dry skin, it has a kick-ass masculine scent to boot. Featuring a awesome, but not overpowering woodsy scent of agarwood and sandalwood, this body wash leaves skin feeling nourished, hydrated, and smelling great. It basically checks all the boxes a man with dry skin is looking for in a moisturizing body wash.

• Clean but not dry

Many guys believe that a soap or body wash is effectively doing it’s job when it completely strips the skin of everything that’s on it. This couldn’t be further from the truth. While it’s important to use a body wash that eliminates dirt, odor, and bacteria, it’s even more important to use one that doesn’t strip the skin of essential moisture and nutrients. One of the things that really impressed me about Marlowe No. 103 is it’s ability to leave skin feeling thoroughly cleansed, while still maintaining it’s natural moisture and hydration levels.

• Bang for your buck

One of the things that I always really liked about Marlowe men’s products is that they are very reasonably priced considering their quality and effectiveness. I tend to be a firm believer in the old saying, you get what you pay for, but I have to admit there is on rare occasions exceptions to that rule. Marlowe is that exception in my opinion.

Era Organics Super Hydrating Cleanser

Bottle of Era Organics best men's body wash for dry skin

This is one of those products that flew under my radar for a long time. It wasn’t until someone recommended it to me that I finally took notice and acknowledged it for what it is; simply one of the best moisturizing body washes for men, period. As the brand name would indicate, Era Organics’ products are formulated using only natural, organic ingredients that are not only gentle on the skin, but actually work. While this Super Hydrating cleanser is suitable for a wide range of skin types, when I look at the ingredient list I can’t help but notice that they put a shit ton of emphasis on skin moisturizing and hydrating ingredients, including: shea butter, sunflower oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, beeswax, and rosehip seed oil. The simple fact of the matter is: if dry skin could drown in moisture, Era Organics Super Hydrating Cleanser would be on death row for murder.

What I like about Era Organics Super Hydrating Cleanser:

• Versatile

This Era Organics Cleanser is on my list of best body washes for dry skin, but it’s actually much more than that. It’s actually designed as a multi-purpose wash, and is suitable for both face and body. And although it’s especially great for guys with dry skin, that’s not all it’s great at. Aside from it’s moisturizing ingredients, It’s formulated with a wide range of additional ingredients that serve a wide range of functions, including:

  • Fights acne causing bacteria
  • Helps prevent ingrown hairs
  • Soothes inflamed and irritated skin
  • Minimizes pores
  • Exfoliates dead and dry skin cells
  • Fights the signs of aging
  • Improves texture, pigment, and skin’s appearance
  • Safe for sensitive skin

• Organic

You don’t have to be a tree hugger to appreciate organic skincare products. I’m not. I just simply don’t like putting harmful chemicals and ingredients on my skin if I can avoid it. That’s what’s great about Era Organics. Their products are formulated using only natural, organic ingredients that are proven safe, even for guys with sensitive skin.

• Citrusy scent

Natural ingredients means natural fragrance, but don’t worry that’s not a bad thing with Era Organics. Thanks to all-natural orange oil, this cleanser has a subtlety sweet citrusy fragrance. While it’s not your typical cologne inspired, rugged, musky scent; It smells crisp, clean, fresh, and, in my opinion, appropriately suited for a man.

What Causes Dry Skin?

Fortunately dry skin isn’t typically considered a serious condition, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored. I discussed some of the common symptoms of dry skin at the beginning of this article, but now I’d like to talk to you about some of the common causes of dry skin. A few of them might surprise you.

Soaps and detergents

One of the major causes of dry skin is bar soap and body wash. Most of the big named brands that you find in the grocery store aisle completely strip the skin of moisture. Sure, they cleanse the skin of dirt, sweat, grime, and bacteria, but most of them suck ass when it comes to maintaining skin’s essential oils and nutrients. Using a body wash that is designed to nourish, moisturize, and hydrate the skin is crucial to eliminating and preventing dry skin from occurring.

Weather

Weather is also a common cause of dry skin. The winter months tend to be the harshest on skin due to a drop in temperature and humidity. This causes moisture in our skin to evaporate more quickly which results in dry, flakey, and often times cracked skin. Washing with a moisturizing body wash and using a good body lotion is crucial to keeping your skin soft, nourished, and hydrated during the harsh winter weather.

Hot water

One of my favorite morning pleasures is a nice hot shower to help wake me up; particularly in the cold winter months. The problem? Hot water is harsh, it strips the skin of moisture and essential oils, and is a common cause of dry skin. Sucks, right? In order to eliminate dry skin caused by hot water, the solution is simple; turn down the temp. Dermatologists recommend showering or bathing in lukewarm water (roughly 98.6° F) to help maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance.

Dry heat

Heat sources such as fireplaces, central air, space heaters, blow-dryers, and wood-burning stoves all reduce humidity, and cause the natural moisture in our skin to evaporate. While it’s simply not possible to completely avoid some of these heat sources, particularly in the cold months, it’s important to use products that contain skin moisturizing ingredients. That starts with a gentle and moisturizing body wash, followed by a good daily skin moisturizer.

Skin conditions

Sometimes dry skin is more than dry skin. Conditions such as eczema and psoriasis are notorious for causing dry, itchy, flakey skin.

Psoriasis – A skin condition that causes skin cells to grow much faster than they normally should. This results in dead, dry skin that accumulates in patches instead of shedding off like it normally would.

Eczema – The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but it’s believed to be the skin’s response to single or multiple irritants. This can include: soap, detergent, clothes, fragrance, and even pet dander. Like psoriasis, the symptoms of eczema are dry, itchy, flakey, and scaly skin.

Should you see a doctor about dry skin?

While dry skin is generally treatable with lifestyle changes and home remedies, there’s always exceptions to the rule. I suggest you seek the advice of a doctor if you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Prolonged dry, cracked skin that is accompanied by bleeding
  • Dry skin that persists in spite of your best efforts
  • Prolonged dry skin that is swollen or inflamed
  • Dry skin that leads to sores or infection from frequent scratching

At the end of the day, it comes down to using basic common sense. There’s no need to risk the health of your skin and body. If you’re unsure, go see a doctor. Dry skin that doesn’t show positive signs of improvement over time is best left treated by a dermatologist.
