What does your belt say about you?

Stylish?

Rugged?

Cheapskate?

Tacky?

Belts are one of the most overlooked aspects of a guy’s wardrobe. So often they are viewed as nothing more than a necessity that help keep the pants in place. Sure, at it’s core that’s a belt’s primary function, but thinking of a belt as a mere utility in your ensemble is a boneheaded mistake that could cost you some serious style points.

If you’re hell bent on making a statement with your belt, I can think of few better options than strapping a double prong leather belt around your waist.

For the uninitiated, a double prong belt contains a buckle that has 2 prongs, and double rows of holes along the leather. In a nutshell: twice the prongs, and twice the number of holes as a standard belt.

If you’re wondering if that equates to twice the cool factor? Or twice the badassery? The answer is, clearly yes.

If you’d like to take your style points to the next level, read on for my list of 10 best double prong leather belts for men.

Coblentz English Bridle Leather Double Prong Belt

Coblentz English bridle leather double prong belt for men front
FinishBlack, Dark brown, Med. brown
Width1.5″
Thickness4.76mm
BuckleSteel

Handcrafted by the Amish, so you can rest assured this thing is built to last. The leather is soft and supple, while still being incredibly thick and heavy duty. Coblentz even claims it can double as a tie down strap. Constructed with premium full-grain bridle leather for a fit and finish that’s second to none. For added piece of mind, Coblentz offers a full lifetime warranty on the belt. That’s confidence.

What’s great about it:

• Bridle leather

While the belt is constructed of solid full-grain leather, the term “bridle leather” refers to the way the leather is finished at the tannery. Only the finest leathers are chosen for this time consuming process that involves stuffing both sides of the leather with special greases and waxes. The end result is a leather that not only looks great, but is also strong, flexible, and highly durable. A superior leather in every sense of the word.

• It’s a tank

This thing is built to last. It’s incredibly thick (4.76mm), and designed to withstand a serious beating. Coblentz recommends using it as an emergency tie down strap. When’s the last time you heard a belt manufacturer express that much confidence in the durability of their product. I’d imagine never.

• Holes the entire length

Waist lines are a fickle thing. It’s nice to have a belt that, if needed, can accommodate a growing or shrinking waistline.

• Lifetime warranty

Coblentz’s confidence in their belt is second to none. With a full lifetime warranty, it’s quite possible you’ll never buy another belt again.

What’s not so great:

It would be nice if the buckle was removable and replaceable.

Proudly crafted in the USA the Hank’s Legend belt is made of 100% full grain leather. Offered in two finishes: distressed crazy horse brown (pictured) and black. If you’re looking for a genuine leather belt that is tough, durable, and looks badass, the Hank’s Legend is worth checking out.

What’s great about it:

• Full grain leather

If you’re looking for the best of the best, only full grain leather will do. It’s soft, it’s supple, it’s leather in it’s purest, strongest form, and perfectly suited for the daily rigors, and challenges that every man’s belt endures.

• Distressed

If you want a shiny, high gloss double prong leather belt, this isn’t the one for you. The distressing on this thing looks like it’s been through the ringer a time or two, and you know what? It looks all the more badass because of it.

• Removable buckle

Love the belt, but not the buckle? Or maybe you just want to customize it. Whatever the reason, the Hanks Legend has a removable buckle that allows you to swap it out for any buckle of your choosing.

• 100 year warranty

Apparently old Hank is pretty confident in the strength and durability of this belt, because he offers a 100 year warranty on it. Whether I like to admit it or not, his confidence gives me confidence.

What’s not so great:

A rustic, satin finish buckle would’ve paired better with the distressing of the leather in my opinion. It is removable though.

Diesel Bit LI

Diesel Bit LI men's double prong leather belt front with buckle
FinishBran or Black
Width1.6″
BuckleNickel

Diesel is an Italian brand known for producing high end fashion items including jeans, footwear, and accessories. Their look can be described as bold and edgy, while maintaining a level of sophistication that pairs well with a wide range of styles. What’s great about it:

When most guys purchase a belt, they expect years of solid, reliable functionality. Cracked leather, broken buckles, torn holes are all symptoms of cheap materials and build quality. When it comes to Diesel, they have built their reputation around premium quality and craftsmanship. The Bit LI features thick, solid construction, and a tough as nails buckle that just wont quit.

• Stylish

Italy is known for it’s high end fashion, and Diesel is no exception. The subtle styling of this double prong belt pairs well with pretty much anything that isn’t formal attire. The grain pattern is intricate, and speaks to the premium quality of the leather, while the buckle sports a rugged feel, and adds a masculine touch to the overall look.

What’s not so great:

The buckle is not removable. Also, Italian sizing is used, so I recommend using a sizing chart before purchasing.

TBS Full Grain Buffalo Leather Belt

full grain buffalo leather double prong belt black
FinishBlack
Width1.5″
BuckleAlloy

Crafted from solid full grain buffalo leather and finished in black, this belt is one tough customer. Buffalo leather is known for its soft and supple nature but also for it’s durability as well. Buffalo hides have a very distinct & beautiful grain pattern to them, and in order to preserve this grain pattern, the hides aren’t stretched during the tanning process. This leaves the leather thick and very durable.

What’s great about it:

• Buffalo leather

I like uniqueness. And when the qualities stemming from that uniqueness are strength, durability, and beauty, I’m all for it. This double prong buffalo leather belt offers something truly different in a world full of the mundane.

• Full length holes

Double rows of holes run the length of the belt, and look pretty badass doing it. I’m not saying you’re going to need all the holes, but sometimes life happens and waistlines change. At least you’ll never have to worry about punching new holes in your belt.

• Rustic

The rugged styling of this double prong belt and buckle pair perfectly with casual attire. The beautiful grain pattern in the buffalo leather, and the rugged silver buckle perfectly compliment: jeans, khakis, shorts, and chinos.

It’s not everyday you find a quality product at a great price. Dickie’s constructed this double prong belt to be tough enough to survive the demands of physical labor, while offering it at a price point that is accessible by anyone.

Due to the dying and finishing process, this belt develops unique color variations in the leather with regular wear. Described as a “pull up effect”, the lighter base tones show through wherever the leather is bent or folded, creating a look that is rugged, and unique to the individual user.

• Harness leather

While the belt is constructed of full-grain leather, the term “harness leather” refers to the finishing process. • Full-grain leather

Simply put, full-grain leather is the best leather available. A lot is required of a belt. Every time you bend, turn around, or sit down, stress is placed on your belt. If you want a belt that is going to hold up to this daily wear and tear, full-grain leather is the way to go.

How to Buy a Leather Belt

Try to think of your belt as a personal style choice. A statement if you will. Choosing the perfect belt isn’t always as easy as picking one that looks the best. Most department store belts look pretty damn good on the rack, they say leather on the tag, and even carry a premium price tag, so that must mean they’re good, right?

Wrong.

Don’t let name brands, or phrases like “genuine leather”, “real leather”, or “bonded leather” fool you. These types of belts are subpar, and intended to trick the consumer into thinking it’s a premium product.

• Genuine leather – This is a vague, and broad term that belt manufacturers will often use to trick the consumer. When it comes to genuine leather belts, it’s impossible to determine how much real leather is actually in it, or the quality of that leather. Belts that bear the phrase “genuine leather” are often constructed with leather scraps and bonded together.

• Real leather – What the hell is this supposed to mean exactly? If you see this printed on a belt, avoid it. There is no telling how much actual leather is in the thing, or how it was constructed.

• Bonded leather – Belts made from bonded leather are trash. Literally. Bonded leather is made from leather fibers and scraps. The crap that should’ve been thrown in the trash. Scraps are mixed with glue, formed into long sheets, and then imprinted with fake leather grain patterns so it looks like the real deal.

What to look for

When it comes to buying a leather belt, full grain leather is what to look for.

Full grain leather – The best grade of leather you can get. As the name suggests, full grain leather is the full natural hide, with all it’s layers intact. It provides the most strength, durability, and character than any other grade of leather. For a belt that is capable of lasting a lifetime, there is no substitute for full grain.
